By mixing and matching (ever my way), combining various pieces in a new configuration, I have an idea for a combination electric thruster/generator. First, One of the newer, reduced size, high efficiency shrouded wind turbine generators... earthandindustry.com/2010/01/flodesign-raises-42-8-million-for-jet-inspired-wind-turbine/www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WB5CawKfE2MNext: Replace the wind turbine with an existing axial-flow, low speed water turbine, such as a Kaplan, which also could work as an impeller... Then, add an additional section for simple reverse thrust... such as on this electric turbofan rc... ... construction of the 3D printed turbofan in this article... www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=607026beed4af81342c58c74765dc8dc&t=2390401Using a modern electric motor that can double as a generator, such as the LRK TorqueMax brushless motor... (design available as shaft, or out-runner) www.aerodesign.de/peter/2001/LRK350/LRK350-20-15_eng.htmlComplex? Yes. Complicated? Somewhat. High potential? Definitely!

Until it's built, it's just an idea. Go for it. I'm working toward a Biogas startup, right now. Get it working right and commercialized, maybe I'll be buying from you...

Seems like your link to earthandindustry.com went bust, there's no DNS for that name. The LRK motor, as shown, is just a large version of the motor used on quad-copters (etc) and in some servo motors, the electric version of the olde rotary radial engine. Any advantages of the motor or engine are very different tho. The Kaplan has reverseable blades, no need to add anything there. Or, the motor will easily run in reverse by swapping two of the drive phases, same as any other 3-phase motor (instant reverse). Anyhow, just curious where you'd use this motor and propellor in (under? above?) the boat. How is it different than using any other type of motor and kort nozzle? When using a nozzle, what about prop fouling in weedy or debris-filled water? Or an azipod?
